Prey 2 officially cancelled
Bethesda has finally confirmed that it is no longer working on Prey 2.
Bethesda's VP of PR & Marketing Pete Hines spoke to CNET at PAX Australia yesterday and confirmed that the game is no longer in development.
"It was game we believed in, but we never felt that it got to where it needed to be - we never saw a path to success if we finished it," he said.
"It wasn't up to our quality standard and we decided to cancel it. It's no longer in development. That wasn't an easy decision, but it's one that won't surprise many folks given that we hadn't been talking about it.
"Human Head Studios is no longer working on. It's a franchise we still believe we can do something with -- we just need to see what that something is."
Notice how he mentioned Human Head Studios specifically here. Human Head Studios was the original developer of the game, back when we first saw this impressive demo.
The development was later rumoured to have been handed to Arkane Austin, a subsidiary of Dishonored developer Arkane. Something which Bethesda later denied.
Days after that, internal emails from Arkane Austin appeared online and led credence to the rumour.
For all we know, Arkane Austin could also be no longer involved in Prey 2's development. But until we hear more, we'll be going with Hine's word.
Thanks, NewGameTrailers for the video.
