Precinct Kickstarter cancelled, private crowdfunding launched

Police Quest spiritual successor Precinct has abandoned Kickstarter in favour of a privately-hosted crowdfunding campaign after a disappointing start.

The campaign, which launched in mind July, still had about ten days remaining when it was cancelled but had raised just $85,756 of its $500,000 goal.

Developer Jim Walls Reloaded has moved its crowdfunding efforts to a private website, with a new goal of $400,000 and no end date. The campaign has three interim goals, with a proof of concept delivered at $25,000; $90,000 for a vertical slice; and $250,000 for a demo. Backers will not have to pay their pledges until an interim goal is met.

Jim Walls Reloaded president Robert Lindsley told Joystiq going private means the team doesn't need extra money to pay for backer rewards and administration fees.

All backers will get access to all builds, including the full game, as they're completed, even if they've pledged a minimal amount. Due to the funding model used, no release date has been set.
