While teased in pre-release videos, the Team Rainbow Rocket content of Ultra Sun and Moon is tucked away in the post-game. Before you can find out what they’re up to, you must first conquer the main story of the game, and become the champion of the Alola Pokemon League.
Once you’re done, Sophocles will kick the side story off when trouble starts brewing in the Festival Plaza. This is just a taste of things to come, and you’ll soon discover that the Aether Foundation has been taken over by Giovanni, leader of Team Rainbow Rocket, and the leaders of the other criminal organisations from the older games.
Once you’re at this point of the game, head over to the Aether Foundation to join forces with Sophocles, Lillie and a surprise guest to take down Giovanni’s latest attempt at conquering the world!
Pokemon Ultra Sun and Moon Shiny Charm and Oval Charm Guide
The Oval Charm is a key item that increases the rate in which eggs appear at the Daycare Centre. This is especially helpful if you’re breeding for competitive pokémon, but also in tandem with the Shiny Charm in that it can improve the odds of Masuda Method breeding.
To obtain the Oval Charm, head to Heahea City and then on to the Game Freak offices, which are located on the right of the city. By speaking to the man at the back of the room, you’ll enter a 6v6 double battle with two developers of the game. This battle can only be accessed after you’ve beaten the Elite 4. Once you’ve beaten them, the Oval Charm is yours!
Next up is the Shiny Charm, which makes it considerably easier to find shiny pokémon in the game. Random encounters will go from 1 in 4096 to 1 in 1024, and other shiny hunting methods like Masuda breeding will also see a benefit.
To obtain the Shiny Charm, return to the Game Freak offices after you’ve filled out the Alola Pokédex. This isn’t a full pokédex of 800+ pokémon, but all of the pokémon that are listed in the Alola dex specifically. There are about 400 of them to collect, but once you do the elusive Shiny Charm will be yours!
