Pokémon Sword and Shield Nintendo Direct - watch the livestream here
Pokemon Sword and Shield, Game Freak’s first wholly new Pokemon RPGs for the Switch, are getting a dedicated Nintendo Direct later today.
The 15 minute presentation will reveal all new details and you can watch it here. The Pokemon Direct, as it’s called, will be broadcast on YouTube and Twitch at 9am ET and 2pm UK time.
The rumoured release date for Pokemon Sword and Shield is November 15th, and the game is believed to feature battles with gigantic, as well as pocket, monsters.
Sword and Shield were first revealed in February. They didn’t so much evoke the Japanese countryside, like their nostalgic Switch predecessor Let’s Go, as an industrial UK. The new region of Galar appears to be equally inspired by Arthurian legend, Victorian machinery, and Harry Potter.
It’s also a return to Pokemon’s original themes of urbanisation - imagining a world where humans work together with the wildlife, rather than rolling straight over it.
There’s another, broader Nintendo Direct presentation coming on June 11, the day E3 starts, focusing on Switch games coming out this year - which could include Luigi’s Mansion 3, Link’s Awakening, Animal Crossing, and Fire Emblem: Three Houses.
