Pokemon Sword and Shield sold over 16 million units, Switch up to 52.48 million lifetime
Pokemon Sword and Shield are the Nintendo Switch's best-selling games this fiscal year.
This morning, Nintendo published its earnings [PDF] for the nine months ended December 31. This period has been very profitable for the company, supported by the success of exclusive games, and the launch of the Switch Lite.
The Switch family sold 17.74 million units during the period, a 22.5% jump compared to the same period the year before. Lifetime sales are now up to 52.48 million, putting Switch ahead of the SNES.
Game sales are doing the best they've ever done, with a 30.1% jump over the year before, for a total of 123.13 million units.
Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield were at the top of the pile, selling 16.06 million units combined. Other 2019 first-party games like Super Mario Maker 2, and Luigi's Mansion 3 both surpassed 5 million units.
In fact, game sales have been doing so well on Switch that this fiscal year alone, 21 of them sold over a million copies each. Nintendo also noted a 48.3% increase in digital revenue, which includes full-game downloads, add-ons and Nintendo Switch Online.
