Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team DX: How to Mega Evolve

Evolution's all very good and well in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team DX, but you can get an even more powerful boost with Mega Evolution, granting your Pokemon a temporary new superpowered form. In this guide we'll go over how to Mega Evolve, what Pokemon can do it and what its limitations are.

How to Mega Evolve Your Pokemon
To Mega Evolve in Mystery Dungeon DX you'll need a very rare item called an Empowerment Seed. These single-use consumables are occasionally given away as Mission Rewards, or might be found in chests in Dungeons. They tend to become slightly more common in the game after the story's over, but you can get them before then if you're lucky.
Empowerment Seeds can be eaten like any other kind of seed and confer the "Awakened" condition. This gives the Pokemon in question a huge stat boost, makes it so their linked moves are always critical hits, as well as ignoring type matches they'd be at a disadvantage for. It's a massive power-up on its own, but if the Pokemon is eligible - i.e., one of the famous or cool-looking ones - it'll also Mega Evolve.
What is Mega Evolution?
If a Pokemon Mega-Evolves, there'll be a glowing purple effect in which it changes forms and grows into something new, usually something more dangerous-looking. It may also get new typing (for example, Ampharos mega evolves from an Electric type into a Dragon type), and some of its moves might change, depending on what they are. We also found that it gave the increased stats even more of a boost than just being Awakened.
Mega Evolution doesn't last long, unfortunately. It ends when you move to the next floor of the Dungeon, or can be stopped by certain debilitating status effects, such as sleep. Because of this and the low availability of Empowerment Seeds, we suggest only using this power when going up against bosses, trying to rescue friends, or completing the hardest dungeons in the game.
