Pokemon Go data cleared from Hiroshima Peace Memorial just in time for this weekend's anniversary
Pokemon Go developer Niantic has responded to requests to remove map data from certain sensitive institutions.
Pokemon Go players have been making pests of themselves at solemn locations. Having someone shout "Squirtle!" and run about bumping into others rather detracts from the dignity of a place of mourning and memorial, innit.
Luckily, Pokemon Go developer Niantic has acted on requests for Pokestops, gyms and Pokemon to be cleared from maps around certain institutions. According to an Associated Press report, you'll no longer find anything in the US Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C., nor the Hiroshima Peace Memorial.
Both sites were cleared at the institutions' request, and only just in the nick of time for the Hiroshima Peace Memorial, which held a ceremony this weekend marking the anniversary of the devastating World War II atomic bombing.
Niantic removed the Pokemon Go gyms and Pokestops by Thursday last week, but left the Pokemon in place. A few worried communications later, and the Pokemon were confirmed to be gone at 1:56am on Saturday morning - about six hours before the ceremony began.
Pokemon Go is largely harmless fun, but it's important not to let your absorption in the game overcome your social awareness, hey.
