Sony's PlayStation Vue service to soft launch within two weeks

Sony will soft launch its PlayStation Vue Internet-based TV service within the next two weeks, per The Wall Street Journal.

The service will come out of beta in Chicago, New York City and Philadelphia and be made available as a full, commercial release. The release timing coincides with the window Sony provided when it announced the service in November 2014.

Sony's Andrew House told The Wall Street Journal the service will be rolled out across North America by the end of 2015.

PlayStation Vue runs on Sony's PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 consoles. The goal is to roll out Vue nationwide by the end of 2015, Sony's Andrew House said in an interview with the Journal.

PlayStation Vue allows PlayStation 3 and PS4 users to watch live or on-demand television programs without the requirement of a cable subscription.

Upon launch, it will include over 75 channels such as CBS, Fox, NBC and Viacom properties.

Pricing for the monthly service is still to be announced, but Sony said last year the price would be “fair and competitive" without cancellation charges.

After the initial release on PlayStation consoles, Sony plans to release the service on third-party platforms such as iPad.
