PlayStation Experience indies round-up: Brawlhalla, Brutal, Dead Star, 100ft Robot Golf, more
There were quite a few indies announced during the PlayStation Experience keynote, so we thought we'd round them all up for you into one post.
Well, honestly, we posted a few on the site already. But the front page is full of news bites, so we don't want these to get lost.
Head below for a short description, video and link to the PS Blog for each one - if available.
100ft Robot Golf - PS4 , PS VR
Seriously. If this is the future of golf, I may take the sport up. Developed by No Goblin, the team behind Roundabout, the real-time golf game puts players in control of massive robots who just destroy things in their path if the ball gets stuck. Is it stuck behind a tree or bush? Just smash the damn thing with your golf club. It even works on buildings, which can also be pushed into the path of your other golf buddies. Courses range from moons to mountains and more traditional areas such as cities and greens. 100ft Robot Golf features four-player co-op in split-screen or online along with classic turn-based action, or custom rulesets can be crafted. The game is in development for both PS4 and PlayStation VR and set for release in 2016.
Brawlhalla - PS4
Popular Steam Early Access game Brawlhalla is coming to PS4 in 2016 and according to what we heard during the livestream, it will have console-exclusive content. Nothing else was said, and we couldn't find a PS4 trailer for it as of press time. Brawlhalla is a free-to-play 2D platform fighter which takes place in an "eternal battle arena" where the best step into the ring to prove they are legends. Or something like that. It looks really cool. Developed by Blue Mammoth Games, the game is available to play on the showroom floor this weekend.
Brutal - PS4
In this Stormcloud Games-developed rouguelike, players will choose either a Ranger, Mage, Warrior or Amazon and then jump into a procedurally generated world constructed entirely from ASCII. The ultimate goal is to reach the 26th floor, defeat the Guardian of the Dungeon and claim his crown. Battles between Trolls, Orcs, Rockmonsters, Lycanthorpes and more enemies will take place along the way.Players will need to craft and enchant weapons and craft potions which will either have a good or bad effect when consumed. The game hero will level up based on the playstyle which suits the player. It contains local co-op, and an editing tool called Dungeon Creator which players can use to build, and play, and share their dungeon creations. It's out early next year.
Dead Star -PS4
We told you about Armature Studio's latest before, but today we were give the first look at Dead Star's Capital Ship Escape Run game mode. In it, players and their crew come across a warship floating with the ruins of an ancient space battlefield. They will need to escort the warship as it warps into a series of live player matches, "each more hazardous than the last." There's more to it though, so head over to the PS Blog and give the post from lead designer Tom Ivey a read.
Invisible, Inc. - PS4
We've all known Klei Entertainment was releasing Invisible, Inc. on PS4 for a while now, but today a new trailer for the game was shown. So, watch it. If you like. The PS4 version will come with the Contingency Plan expansion with the core game. It extends the campaign time and adds new rewards and danger to the base game along with four new Agents, two new starting programs, new weapons, items, and augments. Even the corporations have expanded their roster to include new units, abilities and "advanced versions of familiar guards." A new unique mission that adds new challenges and more time to develop the player's team is also in the expansion, along with a deeper Endless mode which takes the difficulty level up to 20. It is still without a concrete release date, but it's out next year.
Zodiac: Orcanon Odyssey - PS4, Vita, PC
Set off on a journey to discover the "hidden truths of Orcanon" and the secrets of your past in the Kobojo-developed game for PS4 and Vita. Out now on the App Store for iOS devices, the 2D turn-based RPG tasks players with exploring worlds once ruled by powerful gods to find the answer to an ancient prophecy which will eventually lead them to their destiny. In order to do so, they will need to master the power of the 12 Zodiac Signs. Good luck with Libra. We're a feisty lot. If you head over to the game's official website you can find out more on the story in detail and have a look at the gorgeous art.
