Play.com owner Rakuten deems Wii U and iPad 2013's most-discussed Christmas presents for kids
Wii U has seen a 75% sales spike since October and currently sits alongside the iPad as Twitter's most-discussed Christmas present for kids.
MCV reports that the retailer feels that thinning PS4 and Xbox One stock will result in Wii U seeing a sales boost over the Christmas period.
Based on its own Twitter analysis, Rakuten said that Wii U and iPad are “the most talked about presents for children this Christmas”.
It added, “The marketplace’s social media analysis surprisingly showed that the brand new PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles are trailing in second and third place respectively behind the Wii U and iPad. This is despite the fact that both new consoles sold out on Rakuten’s Play.com during Black Friday, which have since been restocked. It appears that those on the hunt for the latest consoles are gamers rather than consumers buying for their loved ones.”
It follows analyst Michael Pachter saying, "I don't know why Iwata is still employed," while commenting on the Nintendo President's handling of the Wii U brand.
