Plants vs Zombies: GOTY edition is free on Origin right now

If you never got around to playing Plants vs Zombies, now's your chance to nab it for free.

Plants vs Zombies was huge back when it launched back in 2009, but chances are you haven't thought of it much lately. But hey, it's pretty good! And if you missed it, you can now grab it for free.

The Origin 'On the House' page is currently running a promotion on the game, giving it away for free. All you need is an Origin account and you can download the game onto the Origin client.

If you've never played Plants vs Zombies before, it's a tower defense game where you have to protect your garden by laying plants down on a grid. The plants can attack the zombies, or block and slow them down. You can upgrade your plants, and you have to prepare for many different types of zombie.

It's good, casual fun. It'll take a while before you actually have to try a level a second time, but it's pretty charming.

The 'Game of the Year' edition added barely anything - cloud saves, achievements, and a zombie creation tool - but it's also the only edition you can buy now, so it's really a semantic distinction.

Basically it's worth the time and what little hard drive space it'll take up. Go on, treat yourself. There's no mention of how long it'll last, so get in quick.
