PixelJunk Shooter 2 details, releasing "soon"

PixelJunk Shooter 2 is the first proper sequel in Q-Games' quirky series so far, and if new information is to be believed, it could very soon land in our eager little paws, complete with new bosses, loads of additional content, and a hard-fought multiplayer mode.

The US PS Blog grabbed a few moments with Q-Games' Matt Morton at CES 2011, during which he promised to deliver the anticipated sequel soon.

"(We're) so close," he said. "Right now, we're trying to go in for certification."

The producer commented that the second entry in the series was a full sequel rather than an "encore" as in earlier titles from the studio, because it contained an equal amount of content as the original, including more bosses, and added in a PvP multiplayer mode.

Two players go head to head in a race to rescue survivors or hunt down their saviour, with an instant role reversal whenever a kill is scored.

Events are enlivened by an "insane amount of power-ups", of which three can be taken into any map, including a tidal wave which floods the screen, a sonar ping, and a blast to change lava to water and vice-versa.
