Piston controller to be co-developed by Scuf

Piston manufacturer Xi3 is working with peripheral company Scuf Gaming to design a controller specifically for the Steambox micro PC.

In a press release, Xi3 said it is "co-developing with Scuf Gaming new designs and options for gaming controllers optimized for Xi3's PISTON™ Console."

The company described Scuf as the "default" independent choice for "pro and elite gamers on first-person shooter and sports games". Xi3 CEO Jason A Sullivan said "there was never any question" about the choice of company to build Piston's controller.

"We're experts in building the world's smallest and most powerful gaming systems, and when it came time to develop controllers customized for PISTON, there was never any question about where we should look. In their short history, Scuf Gaming has developed a very well-deserved reputation as one of the elite controller designers/manufacturers on the planet, and we're very pleased to be working with them," he said.

Neither company said anything at all about potential controller designs.

It will be interesting to see how the eventual Piston controller compares to the Steam Machine's innovative controller. In the meantime, you can plug in whatever bog standard PC controller you like, I suppose.

The Xi3 Piston launches in November for $999.

Thanks, Polygon.
