PC, PS2 online servers for Phantasy Star Universe to close

PSU

Sega's announced the online servers for PC and PS2 versions of Phantasy Star Universe will close in March.

According to a forum post from the publisher, no new subscriptions are to be taken for both SKUs as of next Friday.

However for any existing users, it will be available free of charge as of next week, with one final event to take place before the servers shut on March 31.

The Xbox 360 version will still maintain online servers with continued support, according to Sega.

"While we are sad to see the PC/PS2 version of Phantasy Star Universe end, the year 2010 is the 10th anniversary of Phantasy Star Online -- and this server / service closure is helping to pave the way for bigger and better things for the Phantasy Star franchise in the very near future," said a community rep from the company.
