Paragon's draft mode AFK/dodge penalties seem pretty harsh

Epic's solution to deal with AFK/quitters pre-match in Paragon is pretty punishing.

Paragon's draft mode AFK/dodge penalties seem pretty harsh

In Paragon's draft mode, every player gets to pick a hero in the lobby before the match starts. However, some players don't do that in time, either because they're AFK or because of any other reason.

Epic Games' way of countering this is to kick everyone out and a new lobby has to be formed, penalising everyone, not just the AFK player. Do this enough times and you get dodge penalties that range from five minutes and up to an hour.

Epic says it's doing this to prevent scenarios where players stop picking because their favourite hero has already been picked by another player.

"We implemented it this way to avoid scenarios where players can dodge unfavourable comps with a ‘back up’ player or account that is not penalised and can hop in," Epic told PCInvasion.

"While this may not happen all the time, we wanted to go forward with the design to reduce dodged lobbies and provide more matches for players.

"Our goal with implementing the Draft Lobby was to assist players in coordinating team compositions, there is an understanding that people may still be inclined to leave lobby maybe for malicious reasons or not."

Epic said it's working on a new blog post that will explain this further. For now, if there's a jerk on your team who's upset they couldn't play as their main, everyone is getting kicked.

Thanks, PCGamesN.
