Battle royale game Pac-Man 99 launches today on Nintendo Switch
Nintendo has revealed Pac-Man 99, and the new multiplayer game that riffs on the battle royale genre will be coming to Nintendo Switch Online subscription service today.
Seemingly taking inspiration from other retro classics that have all been hopping on the battle royale bandwagon lately (looking at you Tetris 99 and Super Mario Bros. 35), Pac-Man 99 shoves you and 99 other players into a lobby and tests you to see who the last one munching away is going to be.
It works similarly to Tetris 99, really – each player has their own screen, but gobbling a power pellet, eating ghosts, and sending 'Jammer Pac-Man' over to enemies' screens is all part of the play. You will need to be as disruptive as possible if you intend to win. You'll be able to mess up opponent's games in eight pre-determined ways by sending eaten ghosts over to their screens. You can read more about the game on the exclusive Nintendo page.
You can take a look at the game in action below.
The base game is available at no additional cost for Nintendo Online subscribers, but you can opt to dress it all up with optional DLC if you so choose. This allows you to add CPU mode, time attack and up to 20 custom themes (based on the likes of Galaga, Xevious, Dig Dug and so on).
The themes will set you back $2 each, and the modes will cost you $15. You can opt to get everything all-in-one for $30.
The game launches today and is exclusive to the Nintendo Switch.
