Overwatch Summer Games event kicks off today with a 3v3 soccer-themed brawl called Lucioball
The first seasonal event for Overwatch has kicked off after being teased by the internet earlier this morning.
From today through August 22, Overwatch players participating in the Summer Games event will earn special seasonal Loot Boxes, can collect over 100 new cosmetic items and participate in the latest brawl, Lucioball.
Each will contain a variety of cosmetic items such as themed sprays, emotes, victory poses, highlight intros, player icons, and "very special skins."
Seasonal Loot boxes can't be purchased with credits but each is guaranteed to contain at least one item from the Summer Games collection. This means all items included in the boxes for the event will go back into the Overwatch vault once it ends.
You can get a look at all of the Summer Games 2016 skins below in the video from Alex.
Lucioball is Overwatch's spin on soccer and is a 3v3 match. Teams will enter the Estadio das Ras stadium in Rio de Janeiro. There will be jump pads and speed-boosting walls, allowing players to "punch, glide, block, bounce, and boop" to victory.
Each game of Lucioball will last four minutes and the winning team will be the one which scores the most goals during that time frame.
Since the new area takes place in Brazil, the land in which Overwatch hero Lucio hails, his abilities will be amplified due to playing on his home turf. During Lucioball, his primary fire has been replaced with a melee attack. This will allow him to punch the ball which "is perfect for dribbling, passing, and shooting from short range."
Lucio's alternate fire in the brawl will also emit a blast of sound to launch the ball across the map. His Crossfade ability will only affect him instead of others on his team, and ultimate, Sound Barrier, will now pull the ball to him no matter where it is located on the field.
Blizzard said it has more seasonal events planned for Overwatch, after the inaugural festivities come to an end. It promises to reveal more on these at a later date.
The Overwatch Summer Games 2016 event is live on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
