Overwatch players will need to reinstall the game when the next patch is released
Overwatch players will need to reinstall the game once the new patch is released.
Blizzard has warned Overwatch players ahead of time they will need to reinstall the game with the next patch.
According to the studio, some "pretty fundamental changes" will be made to the game client. Due to the number of back-end changes, the team isn't able to patch over the current game "efficiently."
"As a result, when the next patch comes out, the client will fully reinstall itself to handle these changes," reads the post. "We know that this isn’t ideal for people on metered connections, so hopefully this announcement helps you prepare for this coming update."
When reached for comment, Blizzard told Kotaku the patch will improve load times, optimize memory for “constrained systems,” reduce hard drive space on PS4, and make data changes to support future content.
RPG notes Overwatch requires 30GB of space, but those who have the PTR installed can expect a “significantly smaller” download.
A release date is unknown at present, but Blizzard said it will provide more information once confirmed.
Overwatch players on the PTR are currently testing Overwatch's newest hero Ashe, and her boy B.O.B.
