Overwatch: McCree's flashbang/Fan the Hammer combo to be nerfed
You can't keep spamming McCree's flashbang/Fan the Hammer win combo forever.
Overwatch: McCree's flashbang/Fan the Hammer combo to be nerfed
McCree, one of Overwatch's offensive heroes, has a very unique combo that players have been abusing since launch.
McCree has a flashbang that stuns enemies for a few seconds, but long enough for him to use the Fan the Hammer - the alt-fire on his six shooter. This move allows him to stun almost all opponents, and quickly take them out.
It's also very effective against tanks, which is something it wasn't particularly designed for. It works so well, in fact, that you'll see good teams run with two McCrees fairly regularly.
This win combo may soon be adjusted, according to Blizzard principal designer Geoff Goodman. Goodman spoke about the studio's intent when designing this move in a thread titled 'Please Nerf McCree'.
"I've been watching McCree carefully since we've released. McCree's flashbang plays an important role in being a strong option against very fast/agile teams (tracers/genjis/etc)," Goodman said.
"It is also a nice tool to prevent close range devastating abilities and ultimates such as Reaper's Death Blossom. That said, its probably a bit too good at dealing damage to higher health targets such as Tanks and barriers.
"I don't have any concrete changes yet, but I'm going to be testing some things internally to see how he plays."
Goodman later clarified that he's referring to the flashbang/Fan the Hammer Combo in particular, not the effect of the flashbang itself. "Fan is more likely to see changes than flash at this point," he added.
