Overwatch hero guide: Bastion

Role: Defense

Bastion is one of the most unique heroes in Overwatch. A robot that can change form to become a devastating stationary turret, and eventually into a literal tank, dealing massive damage. But it has weaknesses - it's slow - so don't go thinking this is an unbeatable hero choice.

Bastion is one of the most fun characters to play in Overwatch, and highly recommended for someone wanting to get to grips with the game.

Latest updates for Bastion

Though many players have been crying foul over Bastions remarkable DPS when in turret mode, there haven’t been any significant changes. The only recent update is an increase of ultimate cost by 10%.

Strong against: Reinhardt, Mercy, Winston

Weak against: Genji, Tracer, Widowmaker

Bastion's abilities

Configuration: Sentry

Bastion can transform with the flick of a switch into an immovable turret equipped with a fast-firing minigun. Bastion can rotate and shoot 360 degrees, but its weakness is it's back, where it will take double damage.

Configuration: Recon

In Recon mode Bastion isn't much of a fighter, so mainly use this to move to new positions before turning into the turret again. Try to avoid conflict in this form although you are equipped with a submachine gun for some protection.

Self Repair

Self Repair is crucial after a short session in Sentry mode but make sure you're out of sight before attempting to heal yourself as you won't be able to move or fire.

Ultimate Ability: Configuration: Tank

Transforming into a Tank ups Bastion's damage output significantly, and you finally have the combination of heavy firepower and movement. You can only be in tank form for eight seconds, but your cannon deals area-effect blast damage.

Bastion gameplay tips

  • Your back is your weakness in Sentry mode. Make sure you position yourself with some cover behind you at all times, and don't be afraid to transform back to Recon and move when things get heavy.
  • Position is everything. Find chokepoints on the map which your enemies have to travel through, or consider height and hiding behind doors out of initial sight. Fast heroes will make the mistake of running into your line of fire.
  • Never be tempted to hang around in Sentry mode for too long. Take up position, deal damage, then move on. Once enemies suss out your position you'll become a primary target.
  • In Escort mode shift into Sentry form on the payload and unleash bullet-hell.
