Over 2000 gamers attend Future's first LAN gaming tournament
Organisers celebrate resounding success of PC Gamer Showdown in association with LG
06/10/08 – Future, the UK’s largest games media company, is celebrating the success of the latest addition to its events portfolio, with news that more than 2000 gamers attended its first-ever LAN gaming tournament.
PC Gamer Showdown in association with LG, saw gamers from across the UK bring their PCs to Warwickshire’s Stoneleigh Park on the last weekend in September to battle it out in a weekend of prize tournaments on games including Team Fortress 2, Call of Duty 4 and Counterstrike: Source. E-sports teams like 4Kings, Birmingham Salvo and Team Dignitas made their mark on the event, scooping their share of prizes worth more than £35k!
Alongside one of the UK’s biggest gaming tournament prize funds ever, visitors to PC Gamer Showdown also had the chance to play a number of eagerly anticipated games before their release. Gamers were able to get the UK’s first hands-on with Far Cry 2, Mirror’s Edge and Valve’s Left 4 Dead. When gaming got too much, hot snack superstars Rustlers were on hand with FREE burgers and shoulder massages. PC gaming specialists YoYoTech were also on site with their massive array of PC peripherals.
PC Gamer Showdown in association with LG marked the first time that Future transferred its popular annual US event across the Atlantic and is a further development in the company’s multi-platform games media portfolio – with a reach over more than 8.5m dedicated gamers a month across print, online and live events. Future is already working on plans for PC Gamer Showdown to return bigger and better next year.
Richard Keith is organiser of PC Gamer Showdown:
“Future’s first UK LAN event was a fantastic success with brilliant support from the industry, our partners and gamers themselves. We’ve had fantastic feedback from everyone – and it was a great chance for the industry to meet up with some of the UK’s most enthusiastic PC gamers.
PC Gamer Showdown is another element of Future’s market-leading games media portfolio, bringing print, online and live events together, communicating to a vast audience of committed males.”
CK from high end PC specialists, YOYOTech added:
“This was great event which everyone enjoyed. Seeing the finals played out on YOYOTech WARBIRD systems made us feel proud, but it also brought a smile to my face when I saw families getting involved in the competitions we ran. Visitors were genuinely impressed with the quality of our systems and the gamers were really relieved that we had ‘emergency supplies’ available on the day, like mice, memory, PSUs and graphic cards. It proves that the right kind of show can have broad market appeal – and Future’s PC Gamer Showdown is something that we will definitely be involved in next year”
