Over 20 million spectators tuned into The International
Just in case you had any doubts, The International's viewership numbers prove eSports as a spectator pasttime is here to stay.
The International drew over 20 million spectators via livestreams, Valve has announced, according to GamesIndustry.
Concurrent viewers peaked at well over 2 million, doubling last year's record.
The jump in viewers isn't surprising; Dota 2 has gone from strength to strength in the last year, becoming Steam's most played game by a huge margin, and even ESPN3 highlighted the event this year.
The International was won by Newbee, which pocketed the $5 million grand prize. The enormous prize pool was partially funded by sales of the Compendium, a sort of showbag for online viewers stuffed with ever-increasing goodies.
