Ouya to miss intended launch, now on for June 25th

The Kickstarted Ouya console is to miss its originally intended launch of 4th June, and will now launch on June 25th.

The move was made in order to meet high retail demand according to Ouya CEO Julie Uhrman, who spoke to Joystiq on the matter.

"We've had incredibly positive reactions from our retail partners, and so in order to meet their greater than expected demand, we decided to shift the launch date by a couple of weeks – three weeks – which will allow us to create more units and, basically, have more units on store shelves in June," Uhrman said.

Kickstarter backer units of the Ouya suffered from a defect where the controller buttons could become stuck beneath its removable faceplate. Uhrman commented on those issues to Joystiq as well, saying that the issue had been fixed. The newly fixed controllers are being shipped to Kickstarter backers receiving their machines late, and those already with defective controllers are encouraged to "resolve the issue via customer service."

When Ouya launches, it will be with a suite of Android-based titles including Final Fantasy III and Canabalt.
