Outfit7's Talking Friends collection for Android and iOS surpasses 60 million downloads
Outift7 has announced its Talking Friends collection of iOS and Android apps has just surpassed the 60 million downloads mark.
The Talking Friends collection features eight characters that respond to touches, pokes and swipes with different actions and repeat what users say in a unique character voice.
Users have collectively logged "hundreds of millions of hours of app usage" through digital smart toys, and Outfit7 expects to exceed 100 Million total iOS and Android downloads during 2011's second quarter because of the popularity.
"Our growth is powered by what I would call the Law of Unintended Consequences," said CEO Andrej Nabergoj in the press release. "Kids are using smart phones in ways that were never anticipated. While observing kids playing with our apps, we realized we were no longer an app developer, but a mobile toy maker. The global toy industry, a nearly $100 nillion business, is more than double the size of the game industry.
"It's been a long time since anyone has been able to disrupt that business."
Since its launch in July, Talking Tom Cat, the first app of the bunch, has been downloaded over 35 million downloads times.
The firm also reports that 30-45 percent of most app downloads from all firms come from outside the US , were as Outfit7's apps receive a much higher 67 percent of their downloads from international users.
Outfit7 said on Christmas Day, it made $200,00 in revenue thanks to 1 million downloads. The developer plans to release 18 apps new apps during the course of 2011.
