Origin update rolls out, adds achievements

EA has begun rolling out a new version of PC platform Origin, adjusting the system's interface and adding new features.

The update is available to those who have opted-in to be part of beta updates. Those users will get the chance to update to version 9.2.1 now - but if you don't want to be in the beta, this update will roll out fully in a few weeks.

EA boasts that the update features a revamped Application Settings menu, while PC users that enjoy broadcasting their gameplay online now have the ability to automatically archive their broadcasts. A new multi-launcher also opens up more options for players on beefy 64-bit systems.

The feature most likely to be used by a greater number of gamers is the belated addition of achievements. Achievements earned in titles like Battlefield 3, Mass Effect 3 or Dead Space 3 will now show on your profile. Players will all have an 'Origin Point' total, which functions much the same as Xbox's Gamerscore.

More information on the update is available over on the official Origin site.
