Codemasters' Onrush is a lot deeper than we imagined, new details, gameplay trailer released

Onrush had perhaps a little bit of an understated reveal when it was first announced in October.

Onrush is a MotorStorm-style arcade racer, from former MotorStorm and Driveclub developers. The original trailer didn't skimp on action, but it was hard to see how the game is going to actually play.

Codemasters has not only released a new gameplay trailer, but also revealed a few early details. Onrush borrows a lot from MotorStorm and even Burnout, with the action focusing on speed as well as violent takedowns of opponents.

The game features eight different vehicle classes that each have their own style, handling characteristics, and abilities. Codemasters didn't say a lot about the abilities, but the trailer did bring back some Blur memories.

Some of these abilities will be used for support rather than attack, which is another thing that reminded me of Blur. There's still a lot we don't know, but the game looks to be about a lot more than having fun with dirt buggies.

Catch the new trailer below, which Codemasters said is made up entirely of gameplay footage:

Onrush is due for release June 5 on PS4, and Xbox One. An open beta will take place sometime in May. Onrush is also coming to PC at some point this year.
