One console skin manufacturer says the Switch can not be decorated, while another says it's fine

Switch: possibly compatible with decorations. Or! Possibly not.

Two different console accessory manufacturers have come out with conflicting information on the Switch.

The story starts with dbrand, which posted warnings on both Twitter and Reddit. The company found that the Switch is "not compatible with vinyl wraps or any adhesive-backed skin of any kind", and will exhibit various peeling and other degradation issues when these decorations are removed.

The damage occurs on both JoyCon controllers and the body of the console, and is serious enough that dbrand has cancelled all pre-orders for Switch console and accessory skins, and is gradually refunding all orders.

On the other hand, rival brand Performance Designed Product has assured customers on Facebook that its skins will not damage the Switch or JoyCon controllers in any way.

"Being an officially licensed product, [the skins] have been rigorously tested and approved by Nintendo," the company said.

"Both Nintendo and PDP took great care to find the right combination of materials and adhesives that worked for the system. Consumers should have confidence that our skins feature the quality and performance you expect from an officially licensed product."

There are replies to PDP's post from two unhappy customers who say they have removed skins and found their Switch units have been damaged by them - including one who supplied the image above. A third customer posted a video showing a clean removal of a Switch skin, though.

It's all a bit of a worry, especially if you're expecting to sell your Switch on in a few years. I guess you could never take the skin off?
