On Xbox One, ARK: Survival Evolved will let you host your own server

If you own a second Xbox One console, you can use it to run a server in ARK: Survival Evolved.

The upcoming release of ARK: Survival Evolved on Xbox One Game Preview, has one last piece of good news for those waiting to play it on December 16.

Developer Studio Wildcard confirmed to Xbox Wire the game supports the ability for users to run their own servers on a second Xbox One, something that "would normally require an expensive PC server and a lot of management headaches," according to the developer, and supports 50+ players.

The studio did not indicate whether or not this feature will be available from the outset, however, or if it's reserved for the full release.

Another thing Xbox One owners will benefit from is the improved controller support. "The gamepad control scheme is also much improved over the PC version," Wildcard co-founder Jesse Rapczak said.

"ARK on Xbox One will be the smoothest gameplay experience for the majority of gamers… especially for the price!"

Rapczak went on to praise Xbox Live for providing a "robust multiplayer experience" that he says minimises cheating and makes playing with friends easier.

ARK: Survival Evolved comes to Xbox Game Preview in way similar to that of Steam Early Access. While the developer promised timely updates for this version, they won't be as frequent as on Steam.

The game's full release is due sometime in June, 2016.
