Okabu Android, iOS versions in the works

HandCircus is working on mobile releases set in the same world as its adorable PlayStation Network release, Okabu.

"That's been our focus since October, working on a prototype for a new free-to-play game set in the Okabu universe, for iOS and Android." HandCircus founder Simon Oliver told The Guardian.

The developer is in a good position to build on the Okabu property, having used Sony's indie publishing scheme rather than a third-party publishing package; the same avenue used by Hello Games for Joe danger, which later released through Xbox Live Arcade.

"We wanted to retain ownership of the IP so we could build something that we knew would work across different platforms," Oliver said.

Okabu is available now from the PlayStation Store. It's a kid-friendly action-adventure in which players ride around on flying cloud whales; lightweight but super cute, with a jamming world music soundtrack.

HandCircus is also responsible for mobile hit Rolando and its sequel.

Thanks, Shack.
