This is the official name of Fallout 76's map
Bethesda has confirmed that the map in Fallout 76 will be called Appalachia. West Virginia, where the game is set, sits within the Appalachian region in real life, so it makes sense to name the map as such, much like the Capital Wasteland.
Bethesda revealed the location alongside a tweet of a Guitar Sword which you sadly can’t shred on but can take down enemies with. Every cloud, eh?
Appalachia is known for many things, such as the Appalachian Trail, which is the world’s longest hiking-only footpath, and figures such as Daniel Boone, a pioneer at the front of the Appalachian frontier, who was a folk hero known for his rugged, self-sufficient nature and who inspired a wealth of Americans to fend for themselves against the elements and wildfire in these areas separated from “civilisation” by high mountain ridges.
So, exactly the type of people Vault-Tec would want in their midst, wouldn’t you think?
Cranberry Bog, another location in Fallout 76, is reportedly inspired by the Cranberry Glades bog in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The map already features other real-life landmarks such as Morgantown, Summersville Lake, and Harpers Ferry, so it’ll be interesting to see what else will feature in the coming weeks before Fallout 76’s release.
