Oculus VR acquires 3D hand-sensing tech firm Pebbles Interfaces
Oculus VR has bought Israeli tech firm Pebbles Interfaces, creators of 3D hand-sensing technology.
Using cameras and sensors to generate a 3D model of hands and fingers within a VR device, the tech replicates hand gestures. These include a hand placed over the other and finger manipulations.
This allows the model of the user's hands to pick up virtual objects within a program or game.
"Through micro-optics and computer vision, we hope to improve the information that can be extracted from optical sensors, which will help take virtual reality to the next level," said the firm in a statement.
"We've always believed visual computing will be the next major platform in our lifetime, and we're excited to join the Oculus team to achieve that vision for the future."
Employees of Pebbles Interfaces will stay on with the company, and Oculus VR has declined comment on how much it shelled out for the firm.
