Even if you pre-ordered, you could be waiting over three months for your Rift
Not all those who pre-ordered an Oculus Rift will get it in time for launch.
Oculus announced the price and initial release of the Rift VR headset last night. To the surprise of quite a lot of people, the price was revealed to be $600 before taxes and shipping.
This price tag is no obstacle for enthusiasts, many of which flocked to Oculus' site to place their orders. Oculus will only charge the money when the units actually ship, but already, even those with pre-orders could be waiting three whole months after the official launch to get their hands on one.
Checking the 'pre-order now page' reveals an estimated ship date of June, having moved from May last night. It will undoubtedly keep moving unless Oculus increases stock.
Of course, because this is a non-committal pre-order, plans could fall through and some are likely to cancel. Without knowing the size of the initial stock, however, it's hard to predict.
Oculus said a limited number of units will be available at some retailers, starting April. This could be ultimately the way many would end up getting the headset, and that's not even considering eBay scalpers.
