You'll soon be able to use your Oculus Quest VR headset on PC
Oculus is working on a way to make Quest work as a Rift on PC.
The recently launched Oculus Quest VR headset has largely been well received. The Quest's main selling point is that it works completely independently from phones or PCs.
It does this by relying on its own hardware, which, as you can imagine, means its capabilities are very limited compared to what you can get from a PC VR headset. At Oculus Connect 6 this week, the company announced that Quest owners will soon also be able to use it with their PCs.
Dubbed Oculus Link, the feature will arrive in the form of a new app, coming in November, that will unlock the ability for the Quest to play Rift games. The headset can be hooked up to a PC using a high-quality USB 3 cable, but Oculus is also working on a "premium" fibre optic cable to do the same job.
The cable will offer better ergonomics, Oculus says, but it's good that anyone can do it with a USB cable - provided it supports the required bandwidth.
Oculus Quest will soon also be able to play apps intended for Oculus Go, the company's last-gen standalone headset. Over 50 Go apps will be available beginning next week for Quest owners, but you can also bring your library forward without paying again for the same apps.
