Obsidian countdown site offers few clues, much excitement

Obsidian Entertainment has launched a mysterious new countdown site, to a soundtrack of underoos exploding across the gaming universe.

The Obsidian homepage as we know it has vanished, replaced by an image of a dragon having a thoughtful chew on its own tail and the number four. Clicking this logo takes you to a speculation forum for the so-called Project X.

The front page also bears the message:

What do the words mean? Nothing. The Dirge of Eír Glanfath is sound without form, a lone voice crying out in mourning because it must.

Poke around in the page source reveals this little snippet:

X . X X . X X To tenderness, fellowship. To fellowship, vigilance. So bring we all to the Night Market. I am the Spindle of Esenath. Know me by my light and stand with me in darkness.

The fantasy theme hasn't rung any bells, with speculation currently favouring a new Dungeon Siege game. Note that Dungeon Siege publisher Square Enix has been whispering about a Project X in the works with a western developer for some time, apparently unrelated to the franchise.

Although the language of the tease seems wrong, Obsidian did have hold of the Wheel of Time license at one point; just sayin'.

Obsidian is currently at work on South Park: The Stick of Truth for THQ, but is also behind Alpha Protocol, Fallout: New Vegas, Knights of the Old Republic II and Neverwinter Nights. It boasts some of the most respected RPG talent in the industry among its ranks.

Thanks, Dark!
