"NX will recapture lapsed Wii players," says Ubisoft boss
Whatever Nintendo's new console is, at least one Ubisoft executive has faith it can turn the Big N's fortunes around.
"We have done a lot of products and successes with Nintendo in the past, and we believe that the NX will recapture a lot the lapsed Wii players," Ubisoft's Alain Corre told MCV.
"So we will see when they release it, but we are confident."
This isn't just idle talk; Ubisoft is already publicly on board the NX. As revealed during Ubisoft's E3 2016 conference, Just Dance 2017 is the very first western third-party game to be announced for the new console, which is itself as yet unrevealed.
Corre said Ubisoft appreciates Nintendo is "really concentrating on quality" resulting in "fantastic brands", and its alternate approacj to the family games market.
It may not be politic to point out that Ubisoft has great faith in every console launch. The French publisher backed off the beleaguered Wii U pretty quickly.
Meeting the Wii's success is a tall order; at 100 million units, it's the most successful home console of all time. The Wii U has shifted about 13 million units by comparison. Meanwhile, this generation's leader is the PS4, with over 40 million units sold.
