Nvidia Faceworks demo now available for download

If you were skeptical of Nvidia's claim to real-time rendering with its FaceWorks demo back in March, you can try it out for yourself.

After downloading and installing the demo, you'll be able to adjust various parameters and see how they change the final appearance of Ira, the eerie character at the heart of the showcase.

Nvidia explained that the animations shown off here were created using a special kind of light stage, rather than current techniques, which involve dressing up in a suit and sticking dots and makeup all over your actors. The tech was developed in conjunction with a team at USC's Creative Technology led by Dr. Paul Debevec.

As we noted in March, we're years off seeing this kind of thing in a game, as you'd have very little power left for environments - not to mention hair. But it's still very cool.

Thanks, Kotaku.
