NPD Report - 40% of freemium players are payers
According to a report published by NPD Group, a large number of free-to-play gamers spend real money on their game of choice.
The group conducted an online survey which showed that four out of ten F2P gamers have spend money making in-game purchases of some kind. It also revealed that males are more likely to make such purchases, although females are the ones who're more likely to play such F2P titles.
The report also contains other bits of interesting information. It said that those who make an in-game transaction often tend to do so within the first month of playing itself, and people who try free-to-play titles tend to get hooked onto them, with 84% continuing to play after their initial playthrough.
When it comes to abandoning F2P titles, men aged between 13 to 34 are the most likely to do so, while women in general are more likely to keep playing them.
The survey data was compiled from 6,416 respondents aged two and older.
