NPD June 2010: Xbox 360 second only to DS, RDR moves 963K units
NPD has released June sales figures for the US, showing big Xbox 360 hardware increases and more blistering numbers for Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption.
However, the industry as a whole was down 6 percent for the month year-on-year.
Industry sales total $1.10 billion, down 6 percent
Overall videogame sales fell 6 percent in the US during June, despite the debut of Microsoft's new Xbox 360 model, with accessory, hardware, and software sales totaling $1.10 billion compared to $1.17 billion year-on-year.
NPD once again attributed the decline to the decrease in portable hardware and software sales.
Nintendo still dominates US hardware sales
Handhelds may have contributed to the overall decline in the market, but DS was tops again in June, moving 510.7K units, 127K more than May.
Microsoft’s Xbox 360 was the best selling console for the month, moving 451.7K units thanks in part to the sleeker 250Gb model introduced at E3 last month. June was also the second-largest hardware month for non-holiday sales for Microsoft since 2007, when Halo launched.
Nintendo took the third spot with Wii at 422.5K, and Sony came fourth with 304.8K PS3s moved.
PSP sold 121K units, which is 61.6K more than May.
