Not that we realised they were still open but Killzone 2 and 3's multiplayer servers are shuttering in March
A bit of PlayStation 3 news to make you nostalgic for the other box in your broom closet.
The multiplayer servers for Killzone 2 and Killzone 3 will be decommissioned on 29 March 2018, Guerrilla Games has announced.
"The single player campaign for both games will remain accessible, but online play and related functionality will no longer work," Guerrilla said.
"As we near the end of the online lifecycle for Killzone 2 and Killzone 3, we’d like to express how grateful we are for all the support and feedback we’ve received from the community over the last eight years. Your enthusiasm is what drove us to hone our craft and grow as a studio. We hope you enjoyed playing Killzone 2 and Killzone 3 online as much as we did creating them."
The two PS3 games have had a decent run; Killzone 2 released in 2009 and Killzone 3 released in 2011.
If you're still jonesing for some Killzone action, PS4 title Killzone: Shadow Fall remains a thing.
After more than ten years with the dystopian science fiction shooter, Guerrilla Games has moved on from Killzone. It made an astonishingly successful pivot to open world third-person action adventure with the very well-received Horizon: Zero Dawn. Cementing Guerrilla's reputation as team of technical wizards, the results were so polished we've already seen its influence on later games like Assassin's Creed Origins.
It's not clear whether we'll see any new activity in the Killzone universe; Sony generally seems pretty content to encourage its talent to try new things and pursue their interests rather than wail on existing franchises. That said, it is open to letting teams try their hand as established IP, as with the Resistance Vita game.
