"No plans" for a Wii U ambassador program

Nintendo does not intend to compensate those who purchased a Wii U prior to its price cut, as it did with the 3DS.

A Nintendo representative replied to Wii U Daily flatly denying an Ambassador program is in the works for Wii U.

"The Ambassador program is only available to any Nintendo 3DS owner who purchased their system before August 12, 2011 and there are no plans for a similar program for Wii U," the spokesperson said.

"I know that this isn’t what you were hoping for, but we appreciate your support of our products now and in the future. I also want to assure you that your comments will be added to our records and made available for other departments at the company to use as they see fit."

The 3DS Ambassador program rewarded early adopters with a series of free game downloads, and was announced alongside a dramatic price cut; the handheld is now selling strongly, but was considered a dodgy prospect prior to the drop.

Nintendo announced a $50 price cut to the Deluxe Wii U bundle last week, even though the hardware is still selling at a loss. From September 20, you'll be able to pick one up for $300; the same price as the Basic, which will be phased out. This price cut does not apply to Australia and New Zealand.

In total, the console has shifted 3.61 million units globally.
