Hello Games doesn't know how social No Man's Sky will be

No Man's Sky potentially contains billions of planets. What are your chances of meeting another player? Nobody knows.

No Man's Sky is procedurally generated from a set seed, which means that although the galaxy is being built around the player as they explore, everyone sees the same thing in the same place.

It's a clever way to get around the problem of limitations on game size, without roping players off from each other in unique worlds. But how will multiplayer actually work, when all players start at a random location? Will anybody ever meet up in the vast wilderness of space? How will they communicate?

According to studio boss Sean Murray, there's no answer to those questions - yet.

“We don’t know," he told the Guardian.

“We don’t know if people will spread evenly out across the universe, or whether they’re going to corral into areas that have already been explored, whether they will form little trade routes, little strips of familiar worlds, going from the outside edge like the spokes of a wheel toward the centre of the galaxy - or whether it will be totally random.”

Oh.

No Man's Sky is expected on PC and PS4 sometime in 2015. I can't wait to put this in my life.
