Nintendo’s Miitomo is the no. 1 social-networking app on iOS in Japan
Miitomo has rocketed up to the top spot amongst Japan's iOS social-networking apps on its first day of launch.
It's only been out for a day but Nintendo's Miimoto has already reached the number one spot among social-networking apps on iOS in Japan according to market researcher App Annie.
Talking to Bloomberg, Atul Goyal, an analyst at Jefferies Group LLC, said, "This should remove any doubts about the Nintendo brand’s relevancy in the smartphone age. More than just a messaging tool, Miitomo can be a platform for distributing Nintendo content, and probably third-party content at a later stage."
Miitomo is only available in Japan at present, but has a host of fun features, including My Nintendo rewards that can be unlocked in the app.
Miitomo will be made available in 15 more countries this month, including the US, France, and here in the UK.
Nintendo spokesman Yasuhiro Minagawa didn't share any information on the number of downloads the app has had so far, but did say, "We had a good start and have received very positive feedback. Miitomo will continue to evolve."
I don't know about you, but I can't wait to give this a whirl when it finally releases here. Is Miimoto something you've got your eye on? Let us know in the comments.
