Nintendo's latest batch of indie game reveals includes Windjammers 2
Windjammers 2 received a surprise announcement today within the Nintendo Switch's Indie Highlights video.
Nintendo is undergoing a major push to bring indie games to the Switch, as noted by its latest Indie Highlights video. That said, few expected this was where Nintendo would unveil Windjammers 2, a sequel to the disc-throwing arcade classic.
Developer and publisher DotEmu quickly followed up with its own announcement on Twitter. The new sequel is expected to arrive in 2019.
The original Windjammers was a fast-paced version of Pong, replacing the simple graphics with sprite-based athletes. Players would choose between six characters with their own stats and special moves, and attempt to throw a disc into an opponents goal zone. While Windjammers didn't exactly make waves, it has become something of a cult classic thanks to its vibrant visual style. It was ported to the PS4 and Vita last year.
After presenting several indie Switch ports, Nintendo presented a brief animated teaser for Windjammers 2. The original game will also get a Switch release on October 23, 2018.
Of course, there are many other indie releases to get excited for even if you've played some on other platforms already. 11bit studios highlighted Switch versions of This War of Mine, Children of Morta, and Moonlighter, while Re-Logic showed off footage from Terreria.
