Nintendo wants 100M members worldwide to sign up for My Nintendo
Nintendo has set a lofty milestone for its My Nintendo rewards program.
Lofty, as in a high number. 100 million worldwide members high.
The user ID system Nintendo Account and rewards program My Nintendo will roll out to 39 countries in March, Nintendo told investors during a shareholder briefing today.
Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima told investors the 100 million figure was the "initial milestone" and the company would "make efforts in order to achieve this number at the earliest possible timing."
"We believe that the bigger the size of My Nintendo, the greater the enjoyment and value we will be able to provide to our customers," he said.
At launch, Nintendo Account users will be able to purchase games from web or mobile clients which can then be automatically downloaded on the user's 3DS and Wii U. Those who log into the eShop will earn Platinum Points which can be used to purchase cosmetics like 3DS themes. Gold Points unlock discounts. Users will also earn rewards for using Nintendo apps.
Other features such as friends list management will be added to the service at a later date.
