Nintendo asks devs to make their games 4K-ready for upcoming Switch hardware refresh - report
Nintendo's next Switch console is seemingly going to bring a big upgrade to resolution.
According to a new Bloomberg report, Nintendo has advised developers working on Switch games to make them "4K-read."
This is believed to be linked to the Switch's upcoming hardware revision, which is reportedly going to hit store shelves early next year. Not much is known about that mysterious upgrade, or whether it would replace the current base model outright.
Reports, however, suggest it would feature a higher-resolution screen, and support for 4K output when docked. This would obviously require a boost to the CPU and GPU, but once again, specifics there are not known.
In any case, Nintendo is expecting demand for Switch to remain high through the end of the fiscal year (March 2021). Because of this, the company has boosted production yet again in the hopes of satisfying the market. Nintendo now expects to ship 30 million units by the end of the fiscal year.
Indeed, these forecasts are not unwarranted. Nintendo has enjoyed an exceptional year so far off the back of Animal Crossing: New Horizons alone. In celebration of this year's Super Mario's 35th anniversary, Nintendo is releasing remastered versions of classic Mario games.
There's also a Legend of Zelda game on the horizon in the form of the recently announced Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, due out this November.
