Nintendo NX will be about games, not teraflops
The word "teraflops" gets thrown around a lot when discussing the hardware behind Microsoft's Project Scorpio. It'll probably come up again once the PlayStation Neo is revealed. But just like the Wii U before it, that's probably not going to happen for the Nintendo NX. Much like the Wii U before it, Nintendo has expressed more interesting in creating unique games than being on the cutting edge of technology.
"For us, it's not about specs, it's not about teraflops, it's not about the horsepower of a particular system. For us, it's about the content," Nintendo of American president Reggie Fils-Aime told Bloomberg. "We're focused on bringing our best entertainment to both the Wii U as well as the NX in the future. So for us, whatever Microsoft and Sony are doing in terms of talking about new systems, that's for them to fight out in that red ocean."
This is likely why Nintendo - in a similar fashion to Sony - opted not to reveal the Nintendo NX at E3. And to Nintendo's credit, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wind has doing a fantastic job of adopting modern gameplay styles, even if the hardware behind it is relatively limited. If the NX has more games like Breath of the Wind in its launch library, Nintendo will be doing incredibly well for itself.
