Nintendo more supportive of 'committed' third parties

Shigeru Miyamoto has said Nintendo is likely to be more flexible and supportive towards third-party developers whose work promotes the company's unique hardware features.

Speaking to the Guardian, the legendary designer made it clear what kind of games he favours.

"It's a matter of how seriously they commit themselves," he said.

"Our mission is to approach developers, and if they're willing to commit to experiences only available on Nintendo hardware, we are more willing to help."

That said, Miyamoto doesn't want a series of clones.

"Each developer has his or her own ideas and we really encourage the differences," he added.

Both of Nintendo's current platforms, the 3DS and Wii U, boast unique hardware features. Over the years, developers have given mixed messages regarding the company's support of third-parties, but Frozenbyte, which made a definite effort to produce Wii U-friendly content for Trine 2: Director's Cut, has been all praise.

The article through the link above is well worth a read just for the anecdote about Miyamoto being locked in a loo. I couldn't find an excuse to headline it.

Thanks, GoNintendo.
