Nintendo job posting suggests new Legend of Zelda may be underway

Nintendo is pushing ahead on new Legend of Zelda content. Is it for a Breath of the Wild sequel, or something else?

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was an absolute success story for Nintendo, one that almost made us forget how long the game was in development. The publisher originally intended it as a Wii U exclusive before transitioning to a Switch release, which left fans waiting 6 years for a brand-new core Zelda game (Hyrule Warriors and Link Between Worlds notwithstanding).

Now it seems Nintendo doesn't want to wait an entire console generation for a new Zelda game - at least if this job posting is anything to go on.

As reported by IGN, the translation of this posting reveals Nintendo is seeking an experienced level designer to work on The Legend of Zelda series at Nintendo's Kyoto headquarters. The position will include dungeon creation, enemy design, events, and field (map) creation.

The candidate will need to be able to communicate in Japanese, and will be provided with a housing allowance on top of a regular salary if necessary. That said, the position is contract-based and is not guaranteed to become permanent, so don't move to Japan unless you're really sure about this one.

For players, the real question is what kind of content this Legend of Zelda posting refers to. A Breath of the Wild sequel is the most likely option, but there are other possibilities that cover new Breath of the Wild DLC or spin-off games.

Here's hoping we don't have to wait six years to find out - unless it's as good as Breath of the Wild turned out to be.
