Nintendo has filed patents for a hinged, bendy Joy-Con

It looks like Nintendo could be exploring the possibility of a Joy-Con with a hinge, letting you bend it to your will.

Polygon has reported on a patent filing from Nintendo that appears to be for a pair of Joy-Cons with hinges, allowing you to bend the top quadrant - the minus button and left stick on one Joy-Con, the face buttons and plus button on the other. The patent itself is in Japanese, but click through this link and you can view a whole bunch of images of the thing.

Whether or not this is a thing Nintendo is actually intending to develop and release in anyone's guess, and it would almost certainly have to lose HD rumble in the process. The design seen here can snap onto a Switch screen or be detached, just like the current Joy-Con.

The Joy-Con has, of course, had problems in its existing form, especially when it comes to stick drift. But with the Switch going from strength to strength, it makes sense that Nintendo is exploring new possibilities for what it can do with its peripherals (hopefully we'll know more about that weird ring they showed off last week soon).

In any case, if this ends up being a real thing, we suspect we'll be waiting for it for a long time.
