Nintendo announces competitive puzzler Sushi Striker: The Way of Sushido for 3DS, and bad pun lovers rejoice

Nintendo's latest 3DS announcement, Sushi Striker: The Way of Sushido, makes us feel hungry.

The game was unveiled during a Nintendo Treehouse presentation, and the trailer above was released immediately after.

From what we gathered from the Treehouse stream, you play as Musashi - who is either a boy or a girl depending on what you choose - who has just recently been introduced to sushi. Having become enamored with sushi (which is something I relate to), Musashi finds themselves in a a 'sushi war'.

Gameplay involves swiping your stylus between plates on the bottom screen as they line up on the conveyer belts, forming chains of plates before flinging them at your opponent. Multipliers build up based on the empty plates you manage to stack, and there's a time limit on how long you have to form your chains.

It's typical silly puzzle game logic, of course, but Sushi Striker: The Way of Sushido looks energetic and fun. The 3DS didn't have a huge showing at E3, but between Metroid: Samus Returns, Mario & Luigi, the recently revealed Pokemon Ultra Sun & Moon, and smaller titles like this, there's still some life left in the machine.

Sushi Striker is due to release in 2018.
